Chia Fresca

Chia Fresca, also known as Iskiate, is a traditional drink of the Rarámuri (Tarahumara) people of Chihuahua, Mexico. Chia seeds can absorb up to twelve times their weight in water and consuming them helps the body to retain exponentially more moisture. They are also rich in fiber which slows the transit time of food through the digestive system and in turn, provides steady energy and increases nutrient absorption.

For folks who run hot and are always thirsty, or who just spend a lot of time outside in the sun, Chia Fresca will feel like an answered prayer. It’s the perfect drink to sip in the early afternoon, and due to its ability to stabilize blood sugar, it’s guaranteed to prevent a midday meltdown.

When your work is done for the day, all it takes to turn this refreshing summer beverage into the ultimate warm-weather cocktail is a small splash of your favorite spirit!
