Diuretics increase the volume and frequency of urination. They are helpful in cases of infection of the urinary tract and should be combined with antimicrobial and demulcent herbs in these cases. Diuretics are also helpful for reducing swelling, edema, and high blood pressure. Many diaphoretics are diuretic when taken cold.
